THIGH LIFT

TREATMENT

THIGH LIFT

Thigh lift surgery is a procedure that removes excess skin from the inner thigh resulting in a more toned, contoured shape. There are a number of reasons why a thigh lift may be required, but one of the most common is due to weight loss. When we lose large amounts of weight, the skin may have stretched over time and lost its ability to bounce back. In this instance, thigh lift surgery can really help to relieve you of this excess skin, and give you a more aesthetically appealing toned look to the thighs.

On the day of your procedure, the excess skin along the inner thigh will be measured and marked ready for removal. There are several potential incision points depending on the amount of skin that needs to be removed, and the area of removal. This could mean that we would either; make an incision at the crease of the groin, or down the length of the inner thigh toward the knee. The underlying tissue will then be reshaped and the skin pulled taut to tighten the thigh and improve the contour. Excess skin will be removed, and the wound stitched closed.

At REAL, thigh lift surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic. We use total intravenous anaesthesia as it has greater potential benefits compared to other forms of anaesthesia. Intravenous anaesthesia is more rapid in onset, and elimination which allows for speedier recovery. Further benefits include; increased haemodynamic stability (stabilised blood flow), decreased risk of organ toxicity, decrease in surgical haemostasis (bleeding), reduced risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and improved, more predictable recovery.

QUESTIONS OFTEN ASKED ABOUT THIGH LIFT

  • Are there any risks associated with thigh lift surgery?

There is likely to be swelling, bruising, tenderness and general discomfort following thigh lift surgery which can last for a couple of weeks. There will be scarring following your surgery which is likely to fade over time. In rare cases, you may develop hypertrophic scarring, infection, numbness or bleeding. Your specialist at REAL will furnish you with an appropriate post surgery care pack to aid successful healing.

  • Is there any downtime associated with thigh lift surgery?

You can typically allow around 3 weeks to recover from thigh lift surgery. It would be advisable if possible to rest during this period and refrain from any stress inducing activities including going to work and driving. You should not resume activities such as going to the gym or sports for around 10 weeks post surgery and steps toward increased activity levels should be taken slowly.
